Lots of us begin a new year with aspirations about the sort of difference we want to see in our lives: the habit we’d like to break, the weight we need to lose, the new routine we hope to establish.
But the New Testament offers us a vision for our lives which runs far deeper, the possibility of complete transformation. Writing to the Romans, the Apostle Paul describes the process like this:
‘God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son… We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him’ (Romans 8:29-30, The Message).
During the first three months of 2018, we’ll be thinking together about what it means for us to be changed to be like Jesus, how we can grow to become the people God wants us to be.
